Atrovent is a medicine of a class called bronchodilators. Atrovent is used to treat and sustain a treatment for lung problems and conditions.
Atrovent is used in the treatment of lung diseases such as emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Atrovent works by relaxing the muscles around the airways such that they will open up such that air can flow more easily inside your lungs.

As it is mentioned this drug is a type of bronchodilator, which makes it useful in preventing brinchospasm attacks. In case of an acute attack of shortness of breath you can use this Atrovent with your quick-relief inhaler or nebulized solution unless otherwise instructed by your healthcare provider, pharmacist or doctor. Atrovent has a slow effect however in treating your attack as a normal quick-relief treatment and in order to be as quick as it should be it must be used with another drug that will accelerate it’s effects, such as albuterol because this solution is given with the aid of compressed-air- or oxygen-driven nebulizers.

How should Atrovent be used such that you can prevent and treat lung diseases?

Atrovent is usually used in dosages of 250 mg up to 500mg in the case of adults. For children between 5 to 12 years old, the recommended dosage is between 125mg up to 250mg. The dose is used at every 4 to 6 hours if necessary and depending on the condition of your lung disease.

For a usual treatment of breathing problems associated with emphysema or a chronic bronchitis the recommended dose for and adult is 500mg taken three times a day. If less than 2 mL of solution is to be nebulized, a sterile, preservative-free saline or another suitable nebulizer solution should be used to make up the total volume to between 2 mL and 5 mL.

Your doctor, healthcare provider or pharmacist will give you the correct indications for using this medication safe and properly. The best way of being on safe side while using Atrovent you should consult the instructions that come with the medication and with your supplementary substances that must be used in combination with Atrovent for preventing Bronchospasm. You should know that it is very important to adjust, if required, to prevent the dust from harming your eyes the face mask that you use for your treatment.

While using Atrovent there are some things that can affect the dosages required for your treatment. Such things may include body weight, some other medications that you use and of course other medical problems. Taking this into consideration you can be advised to use a different dose of Atrovent to prevent bronchospasm than the normal one.

Taking Atrovent for treating bronchospasm must be taken under medical supervision and we strongly recommend you to use Atrovent exactly as it was prescribed. Try not to miss any dose, but in case you do never double up the passe to recover because it will do you more harm than good.
